These magnets that you may have seen around town are all part of a new Pensacola branding campaign. This initiative is an undertaking of the Pensacola Area Chamber of Commerce. They plan on building up the name of what Pensacola residents want Pensacola to represent.
As part of this campaign they have car magnets, t-shirts, and banners all with the words "heroic, glorious, innovative, genuine, spirited, beautiful". The words that Pensacola residents best think represent the community.
I love this idea, I think its awesome to see some work being done to promote Pensacola's name. With all the ways our town has been advancing lately its time to let it shine. Let others know and make them want to come in and do business.
Pensacola is innovative, we need to show it, and this does. This is an innovative and beautiful way to promote our wonderful city.
Project Management is a lot trickier than most people would think.
Over the last few weeks just trying to manage the few small projects we have, I have found a new respect for the people who do this for the huge web firms around the country.
Project Managers are responsible for a ridiculous amount of work. From dealing with the clients to dealing the the programmers, to being a bill collector.
Its a hard job that not many are cut out for.
Recently while browsing Digg I found an article for Google Earth Flight Simulator. This really caught my eye. I found it very interesting, its an awesome "hidden" feature.
From the post on Marco's Blog:
Some time last week, Google expanded Google Earth with Google Sky. As fascinating as Google Sky is, that's not the focus of this post. Along with the latest update comes a hidden feature of which I cannot seem to find any other information about. It's not in the release notes and a search on Google produces no results. Seems Google have done one of their unpublicised updates they're becoming well-known for. What I'm talking about is a flight simulator embedded within GE. Sounds awesome, doesn't it? If the thought amazes you as much as it did me, then might have run off and tried it for yourself. But there's a problem. Remember what I said above - it's a hidden feature!
First of all you'll have to install the latest version of GE. Once you've started it all up, explored Google Sky a bit, then all you have to do is hit Ctrl+Alt+A (if you're running OS X it's Command+Option+A; some people have reported that Ctrl+A or Ctrl+Windows+A work when the standard Ctrl+Alt+A does not).
I played around with it. It is AWESOME, you can fly an F16 everywhere on earth. It might take a little playing around to get it to open. For me I had to go to an airport and try the key combination there. Then it worked.
Everyone should go and play with it. Its awesome. Also Google Sky is awesome.
So to conclude, Google rocks. :P
Since our company is based in beautiful downtown Pensacola Florida, we have quite a few choices when it comes to lunch and where we would like to eat. Recently we have taken a liking to The Cottage Cafe, it's a little sandwich shop about two blocks from our location. The food is absolutely wonderful. It's frequented by lawyers, librarians, business owners. Its a small treasure in our town.
The owners also own and operate The Pensacola Victorian Bed and Breakfast which sits next too the cafe on the same lot. They are old friends of mine so one day while Aaron and I were in the shop eating I asked them if they would like the website for the Bed and Breakfast updated and if they would like a site for the Cottage Cafe. As you can guess they said yes. So currently we are working on that project.
If you ever would like to meet with Aaron and I to talk about anything, you are likely to catch us at the table by the door in the Cottage Cafe around 1:00 pm. We would love to take you to lunch and talk about anything. We always love new company.
If you would like to go to lunch with us one day drop me a line at andrew@thealleydevelopment.com.
From the Skype Heartbeat website.
On Thursday, 16th August 2007, the Skype peer-to-peer network became unstable and suffered a critical disruption.
The Alley Development uses Skype regularly for day to day business. Skype is software that lets you use your computer and internet connection to communicate with anyone, anywhere in the world. It allows calls to other skype users, as well as almost all real cellphones and landlines. We use it for almost all company phone calls. It has never failed us, in fact when you call the company number listed on this site you are calling Skype on someones computer.
So of course when Skype was down for almost two days it kinda put a damper on things, thankfully we have voicemail on the account that continued to work.
Now Skype is back to normal and they have fixed the issue, so we're all back on track. Note I am not knocking Skype service at all. I still adore the service and will continue to use it as much as we can. In fact there is a PBX interface that will allow us to make skype calls through a standard PBX phone system.
I recommend you all try out Skype. Even give me a call and I would love to chat. My skype account is andrew-myers, send me a line.
